Tapestry Designs by Jill Gordon
V&A Flowers Cushion
 |
| "A plate in the Victoria and Albert Museum
was the inspiration for this design. It is Welsh and dates from
between 1811 and 1819, and is elegantly painted with a basket
of full-blown garden flowers. I loved the vibrant warmth of
the blooms but decided to leave out the basket. As a background
to the bouquet I decided on a very pale brocade, which works
effectively without introducing new colours. The border was
suggested by a chair seat from the V&A's textile collection,
dated 1737 and depicting a stylised vase of flowers. From it
I fitted various elements around the bouquet, echoing its richness
and making a good edge to the pale brocade." |
