William de Morgan 'Rudchester Lion'
Tapestry Designer: Karen Dixon
 |
"This rampant lion with encircling foliage
was originally designed by William de Morgan in sepia tones. I felt,
however, that using the stronger shades used by de Morgan in many
of his other designs would add more of a medieval heraldic feel.
The design can be made up either square or circular,
sufficient wool is provded for either. It looks stunning made up as
a pillow or used as a cover for a footstool.
The original design had no name so I called
it after one of the Roman forts on Hadrian's Wall in my home county
of Northumberland."
Karen Dixon
The design uses Appletons Tappestry wool for a traditional look.
The worked area measures 18" x 19"
(46cm x 48cm) suitable for a pillow or cushion.
