This beautiful and unusual design of a Buddha is based on a glazed ceramic statue from the Chinese province of Hopeh dating to the 10th or 11th century. The green and brown of the Buddha's robes are typical of the techniques used by artists of the T'ang period. The original is now housed in the British Museum, London.
