Lisbeth
smelling a Tulip
Lisbeth was
Carl Larsson and his wife Karin's fourth child, born
in 1891, making her three years old when her father
painted this watercolour of her smelling a tulip. Larsson
records what a difficult task it was trying to get his
children to stay still long enough for him to make a
sketch of them, generally taking to their heels when
they were called to be his model!
The design is worked on 28 count Cashel linen and the
worked area measures 8½ x 5¾ins (22 x 15cm).
