Mary Seton Watts (1849-1938) was born in India, but spent much of her youth in Scotland. Her initial interest lay in portrait painting, but on her marriage to the famous Victorian Symbolist artist, George Frederick Watts in 1886, she abandoned this is favour of sinuous Celtic and Art Nouveau bas-reliefs, pottery, metalwork and textiles.
